One of the leading universities of the Southern Federal District - Sochi State University - celebrated its 25th anniversary in March 2014. The University was founded in 1989 in accordance with the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR № 388 on March, 29 1988. In 1992, it was transformed to Sochi State Institute of tourism and recreation, and in 2011 was renamed Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education "Sochi State University". Since February 2009 to the present the rector of Sochi State University is Doctor of Economics, Professor G. Romanov. The training in the University is carried out on 5 faculties: tourism, service and sport; engineering and environmental; economics and management; law; socio-pedagogical; and University College of Economics and Technology and the Center for Continuing Professional Education. Bachelors in 18 areas and 37 specializations, specialists in 29 specialities, specialists in 13 programs of secondary vocational education and Masters are being trained in Sochi State University. About 30 thousand highly qualified specialists have been trained Sochi State University for 25 years of its existence, and the vast majority of them are in demand on the labor market of Sochi, Russian regions and abroad. The priority directions of activity of the University include further development of science, creation of a single university complex and development of the system of continuous education. The summary of the main achievements of Sochi State University shows that the university takes a remarkable place in Russian science and education and feels confident about its future.
